How To: Build a Cool Fire Pit! Too Easy.

Build a Cool Fire Pit! Too Easy.

How to build an outdoor, homemade fire pit out of an old washing machine drum! It looks great and works fantastic. Fire pits are conventionally made from stone or bricks and as the name suggests, are made into a pit in the ground. The fire pit that l have just built is a little different to that.

My outdoor fire pit is not only cheap (mine cost me $6.00! YES $6.00!) but is also so easy to make. The basic materials you require are an old discarded washing machine (you use the drum out of this for the fire pit) and an old chair that has metal legs. That is it!

When looking for fire pit ideas, there is more than just building a fire pit with bricks or a fire pit with rocks. Think outside the square, which is where the washing machine drum comes to the fore.

Homemade fire pits, like the one in this video, are fun to make and can be used for not only heat and atmosphere, but also fire pit cooking. All you need to do is place an old oven cooking tray across the top and you have a ready made cook top. Perfect for cooking those chops and sausages.

Having a backyard fire pit or an outdoor fire pit will be the envy of all your friends. So get busy and build a fire pit this weekend!!

I am building a fire pit from an old washing machine tub and going to put bricks around it just to stablize it so it does not fall over. The bricks are going to be set so there is air holes, is it best to use cement or mortar and is it ok to use old bricks since the heat is not going to be right on the bricks? Thanks, Norma
