Betty, from Betty's Kitchen, explains how to make oven-baked pork chops with home style gravy! First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Betty explains that she will leave the fat trim around the pork chops before cooking. First, use meat tenderizer to season the meat. Shake the meat tenderizer over the pork chops on both sides, the top and the bottom. Get a skillet and pour peanut oil into it. Turn this on and make sure it sizzles. Pour one cup of flour into a large zip lock bag and put the pork chops into he bag one at a time and shake them in the flour. After doing this, put the floured pork chops in the skillet. Pepper the pork chops while they are in the skillet. With a fork, turn the pork chops. The pork chops do not have to be brown, but make sure that both sides have contact with the peanut oil. Next, place the pork chops into the oven and leave the pork chops in the oven fro about 30 minutes. When you take them out, cut them in the middle with a knife to check if the meat is white. If the meat is white, the pork chops are cooked. Make sure you take the pork chops out of the oil immediately. Place them on paper towel to get the excess oil off!
Now, we'll make the home style gravy. This gravy will be based on the peanut oil left over in the pan. Pour off the grease from the skillet into a jar or container for the gravy. Take some of the flour in the shaker back, half a cup, and put it into the skillet you used to cook the pork chops. Put 2 cups of water & 1 cup of skim milk into the skillet and blend with the flour and crust from the skillet. Mash the flower into the water and milk so the gravy is smooth. Now, continue to stir and cook the gravy into heat. If needed, add more water. You can also season the gravy to taste with salt. Continue to stir the gravy and cook until smooth and done. Now, pour the gravy into a container and serve over your cooked pork chops! Enjoy!
